Computational Modeling & Data Analytics

CMDA 2005Integrated Quantitative Science I

This six credit class functioned as both Multivariable Calculus & Statistics. I had not planned to take this class, but a friend convinced me to take it my first semester. Prior to the first actual class, I thought I would drop the class as I thought it would distract me from my CS-Major classes, but I ended up liking it a lot. This class convinced me to pick up the CMDA Double Major as well!

CMDA 2006Integrated Quantitative Science II

This six credit class functioned as both Differential Equations & Statistics. It was not as easy as CMDA 2005, but I learned a lot more within the field of Statistics. I will continue to keep this information in the back of my mind. Especially because I now understand that, after talking to my Professor from this class, "Machine Learning & Data Science are largely Efficient Statistics".

Computer Science

CS 2114Software Design & Data Structures

I took this class in my first semester at Virginia Tech. It was a good review and more in-depth study of some of the Data Structures I had learned in my senior of year of high school.

CS 2505Computer Organization I

This class was a good intro to LINUX/UNIX systems, the C Programming Language, and Assembly Language. I enjoyed learning about C as it has immense and relevant applications, but I wasn't a fan of Assembly.

CS 2304Topics in Programming Systems: SQL

Great class that helped me review basic SQL concepts while also learning more advanced concepts like Stored Procedures or Cursor.

CS 3114Software Design & Data Structures

Currently taking this class. We learn advanced data structures like AVL trees, Memory Pools, Bufferpools, and Hash Tables.

Mathematics

MATH 2114Linear Algebra

Took this class during my first semester at Virginia Tech. I really enjoyed this class, and it helped me uncover my love for linear algebra. I had liked algebra prior to taking this class, but there was nothing quite like Vector Spaces that helped me understand what I was missing in my life before.

Engineering Education

ENGE 1215Foundations of Engineering I

Wonderful class! We learned MATLAB, which I found to be pretty fun despite it being overhated in the Computer Science community.

ENGE 1216Foundations of Engineering II

Didn't like this class as much as ENGE 1215. We focused more on CAD software, which definitely wasn't my strongsuit. I'd much rather program. We did, however, build a prototype package-carrying robot using Arduino Software and Hardware for the final project. I learned valuable Teamwork skills from this class!

ENGE 2964Field Study: IDPRO

This class was excellent for real-world experience. It worked by having students work in teams (of which I plan to continue to be in) for a specific project. My team focused on building a more localized SMART-home ecosystem that allows for greater data & privacy control rather than how more famous systems have data stored in the cloud, which may be vulnerable to cyberattacks.

Japanese

JPN 2105Intermediate Japanese I

I took Japanese in High School, so I thought the setting would be similar. As such, I took course in my first semester at Virginia Tech. It was mostly a review of what I had already learned before the AP Level, but I did learn new things and made friends in this class. At the end of this class, however, I realized that learning Japanese would better suit me as a hobby rather than pursuing a Minor or additional classes.
